Types of Printed Music

Written music (on sheet music) is the manner in which music has been communicated for ages, from one musician to another.

So, being able to read music and communicate music through written notes is an important part of learning music.

There is a lot of choices available when it comes to printed music. You can choose anything that belongs to your area of interest.

  • A Sheet music will show you both the cleffs so that you can play note to note as printed for both your hands.
  • A folio is a collection of sheets. The pieces in a folio are usually grouped based on a certain theme, such as songs written by a specific artist or a band or any particular style of music.
  • A lead sheet on the other hand only provides the melody cleff and gives you the chords so that you can improvise your Piano Keyboard playing.

Since the music chart only provides the notes for the melody, you should know what you are going to do with your left hand. Learn some left hand accompaniments and rhythmic patterns which you can use to play the chords. Learn to play the chords as 3-note, 4-note arpeggios. You can even train your left hand to play the melody so that for some bars you can play the melody line with both your hands.

  • Lead sheets are also grouped based on some common theme and sold as a collection, known as a fakebook.

Prelude in C major (by Johann Sebastian Bach): This beautiful piece continues to inspire generations of keyboard players. Its easy to play and sound beautiful as well. The prelude is around 35 bars long and consists mostly of broken chords. If you’re learning to play the piano, you must include this piece in your repertoire. The piece makes an excellent introduction to the works of J. S. Bach.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra (Also Sprach Zarathustra) is an iconic composition by Richard Strauss. Not only does it sound epic, but Strauss’ Zarathustra is also one of the most recognizable musical pieces in the history of music. Movie Theme Songs

A movie theme song is usually referred to as the song played during the opening or closing credits. But a good theme song is more than simply background music for the credits. Instead, it is the music that represents the overall theme of the movie itself.

Beethoven Piano Sheet Music

Beethoven (Keyboard) piano sheet music can be classified under Bagatelles, Cadenzas, Sonatas, Sonatinas, Piano Music for Four Hands, Variations, Piano with Orchestra, Quartets arranged for solo piano, and more.

Some of his popular compositions include:

  • Excerpt from Piano Sonata Op. 27, No. 1 – for piano

Vangelis: Interview With the Legendary Greek Composer

Greek composer and performer Vangelis is known for his amazing works in electronic music, blended with orchestral style; his music is so powerful yet melodic. Vangelis’ most popular compositions include his Chariots of Fire (1981), Blade Runner (1982) and the tracks he used in the Cosmos (1980) television series.

There are many who feel that synthesizers are not natural instruments and different from other acoustic musical instrments, just because they need electricity to produce sounds? I consider myself very fortunate, to live in a century that science and technology offer more ways to extend the needs of music. I believe strongly, trying to separate these two sources, it would be a big mistake. For me, a sound is a sound no matter where it comes from. To put labels and to separate the acoustic sounds-as wrongly they have been called- and the synthesizers, is a big mistake.

Vangelis – 1492: Conquest of Paradise (Full Album). This is a masterpiece. Its powerful, haunting, and captures the man’s genius for sure.

Best of George Gershwin (composer and pianist): Music, Complete Works, Books, Sheet Music.

“Gershwin: Complete Works for Solo Piano” includes Gershwin’s well-known pieces and is suited for the advanced pianist as it demands greater virtuosity (as compared to the “50 Gershwin Classics”). The piano part for 50 Gershwin Classics is fun to play but it is less challenging compared to George Gershwin — Complete Works for Solo Piano.
