About Snark

Snark Guitar Tuner Reviews When you talk about tuning equipment, digital metronomes and tuners, one brand that stands apart for their range of offerings and affordability, is “Snark”.

They have several decades of experience manufacturing these equipment, and their tuners continue to get used by students, technicians and even popular musicians around the world.

Even though most guitars have a chromatic tuner built-in the guitar, its much easier to tune the guitar using a clip-on tuner (like the one from Snark). These are more accurate and tune by 1/10 of Hertz.

A chromatic tuner is a device that can tune any note, including sharps and flats, and it’s tuning range covers all the 12 notes of the scale. That is why they can also be used for other stringed instruments such as violin, cello, mandolins etc.

One of their most popular tuning gadget is the clip-on tuner! Usually, chromatic tuners are available in various sizes but clip-on tuners are quite small and can easily fit in most pockets.

    Snark Tuner Battery

These little CR 2032 lithium watch batteries run the Snark clip on tuner. Your snark will not function without these and the good thing is that these are quite inexpensive.

It’s best to have some spare ones so that you are not left stranded when you need one. Energizer is one good brand that you can use, though it’s not the only one to choose from.

When using the metronome feature, the tuner may not turn off automatically so it’s always a good practice to physically turn the gadget off, once you’re done; doing this will ensure the battery lasts longer.

    Snark Tuner Issues

These are among the better products available in the market and as such there are not many known issues with the Snark tuner range. So, even though there are not any tuning related problems found with these products, you need to make sure that you use it in the right manner.

    • For instance, when tuning by vibration, make sure that the tuner is firmly gripped to the instrument, you could try moving the gadget for a better fit.
    • Some users complain that they go through their Snark CR batteries more frequently than intended, however that’s more to do with the usage and it’s not that the tuner is power-hungry and sucks more energy.
    • We have observed many users talking about poor visibility, but its like any other screen, it depends on its angle. If you’re unable to view properly, just change its angle (It doesn’t affect the tuning)

In case, you have experienced any issues with your tuner and feel that it’s not working properly, feel free to write about it here.

    1. I have five tuners – two are PolyTuners, one Korg, one Peterson strobe, & another Seiko quartz tuner. Snark tuners offer good value for money and are quite accurate. Its almost on par with a studio tuner. Many also feel that its not solid, but I play rock with these daily, and even use it for live performances, but never did it break down.

    2. There are several clip-on tuners available for guitar, but Snark happens to be is one of the best. Although the Snark Clip Tuner is quite popular, selecting a Snark Clip Tuner becomes a little difficult because they have several models. I personally feel that Snark SN5x and the Snark HZ5 are the best clip-on tuners available to guitar and bass players. These tuners are not designed for ukuleles though.

    3. My Snark tuner has become very dim, its barely readable. I think its because the head fell off once…and not because of the batteries. Any way to make it brighter?

      1. So did you test it with a new battery? If not, why don’t you give it a try? You can also try removing the battery and inserting it back. Worst case, get a new one, these don’t cost much, and repairing it may not be cost-effective.
