The Seagull S6 is a high-quality acoustic dreadnought guitar, and one of the best entry-level/intermediate-level acoustic guitars. It features a solid Cedar top and Wild Cherry back and sides. In fact, it compares well even with guitars that cost several times its price and doesn’t really have much downside to it, considering its price. There are some guitars which stay popular for years and years, and the Seagull S6 is one of those. The Seagull S6 is Seagull’s most popular instrument to date. Guitar players love its superior build, tonal quality, finish and feel, and of-course the cost. See PRICE on Amazon.

“I am just starting to learn guitar, what instrument should I buy?” Whenever I get asked this question (from time to time). My answer always includes the Seagull S6 as one of the options.
If you wish to buy a Taylor or a Martin and find the price to be prohibitive, this one can be a nice alternative.
Who Is It For?
This is perfect for those looking for a quality acoustic guitar for Practicing, Jamming, and Recording.
For beginners it could be a bit expensive, but serious beginners who can afford it will never regret buying it.
It’s got the perfect weight so even growing children can use it (easier to carry) and they will love its sound.
Seagull S6 Review
The best thing about the S6 is that it allows entry level players the opportunity to experience the great feel and superb sound (usually found on expensive guitars) in an affordably priced guitar. A fantastic guitar that comes with a hand finished neck, select solid Cedar top and a Custom Polished Finish.
How is the Finish?
Seagull S6 features gloss coating, which means it can get sweaty/sticky at times, which may cause inconvenience to some.
The Seagull S6’s top is solid and made of book matched cedar (used on guitar soundboards for centuries, most Flamenco guitars come with cedar tops). And as it gets older (and the more its played), the vibrations produced on a solid guitar soundboard become more robust. The solid cedar top provides a lush, dark-toned character and packs in a solid low-end tone.
Wild Cherry Wood Back and Sides: Wild cherry is an excellent tone wood that provides a unique timbre that lies somewhere between the mellow tone provided by Mahogany and the bright sound of maple.
Hand finished neck
Unlike most factory-manufactured guitars made by robots, this one has a hand-finished neck. It just shows the amount of care goes into the making of this instrument, available in a price range meant for beginners.
The Seagull Brand
The pricing of the guitar may suggest that its an entry level guitar but the Seagull S6 is winner of several awards and best represents the Seagull philosophy – “offer entry-level players the opportunity to experience great feel and superb sounds”. and this guitar surely does that.
This is a beautiful guitar with a wonderful finish, something that will stay with you for years and still sound beautiful.
The quality of craftsmanship is top notch, action is great, and even the softest strum of the strings produces a rich & warm sound.
Most guitars in this price range are cheaply made in asia and heavily lacquered. Not this one! You could spend a lot more money and not get an instrument this nice.
How is the Action & Feel?
Seagulls are often compared to Taylor guitars because of their playability, feel, and even the build quality. While this one may not be a thousand dollar guitar, it definitely feels a lot better than what it is priced. The Seagull S6 Original guitar bridges the gap between two different (far spaced) price brackets, and it does it very well.
Is it hard to Play? For beginners
A student is much more likely to enjoy playing the guitar if it sounds beautiful. They’re more likely to stick to it, and overcome the difficult phase of learning, and stay with the instrument for ever. The Seagull S6 is exactly that type of instrument.
If you find the S6 guitar a bit ‘Hard to play’ (hard to press the strings down cleanly), you could consider using lighter gauge strings.
If it still doesn’t help, take it to a specialist guitar technician or guitar maker (may be listed as a ‘luthier’) to see if it can be fixed (raise/lower the neck).
Seagull S6 Electric-Acoustic
So is there an acoustic-electric version of Seagull S6?
Yes, there is one that comes with electronics, and its expensive than this one. The Electric model is called the “Quantum I”, and it includes three knobs for control over volume, treble, and bass. It also features a bonus feature – the onboard tuner.
You may consider buying the electric option if you intend to play in noisy areas, such as crowded streets or in the bar.
